They Gave Thirty Years to Their Career. Give Them One Great Night.

Retirement is the kind of milestone that arrives quietly and then, suddenly, all at once — and the celebration that follows should be equal to the decades that preceded it. Not a potluck in a conference room with a sheet cake. Not a rushed dinner at a restaurant table surrounded by strangers.

A real event. A meal built around the person being celebrated. An evening that says, without ambiguity, that what they did mattered — and that the people in the room know it.

Coastal Roots Events & Catering builds that evening.

The Retirement Dinner, Elevated

Retirement celebrations come in every shape and size — an intimate dinner for twenty close colleagues and family, a larger reception for the full professional community someone built over a career, or something in between. Our catering formats scale to the occasion without sacrificing the quality that makes the evening worth remembering.

For an intimate retirement dinner, our plated service is the right foundation. Consider opening with Wagyu Carpaccio — chimichurri aioli, shallots, crispy capers, manchego, and toast points from our Rio Grill kitchen — before moving to a Filet Mignon grilled over almond wood with wild mushrooms, arugula, and hibiscus demi-glace. These are not generic event plates. They are dishes from our kitchen — brought into your private space with full table service.

For a larger retirement reception, our Scampi Sautée Station — fresh caught prawns sautéed live with Chardonnay, lemon, and garlic — creates an interactive focal point that guests naturally gather around, giving the honored retiree space to move through the room and connect with everyone there for them.

Close the evening with Caramel-Apple Bread Pudding with whiskey crème anglaise or Meyer Lemon Bars with torched meringue — desserts that feel celebratory without trying too hard.

A Setting Worthy of the Career

Coastal Roots operates three Peninsula venues available for private retirement events: Tarpy's and its iconic garden patios and Library Room, Montrio in downtown Monterey for a more intimate and urban dinner, and Rio Grill in Carmel for a Carmel Valley-adjacent setting that suits wine-forward retirement celebrations beautifully.

Off-site catering available throughout the Peninsula — private homes, resort venues, and event spaces. View our event gallery to see how we set these spaces for milestone occasions.

FAQ

What's the best catering format for a retirement party?

It depends on the size and tone. For intimate dinners of 20–40, plated service creates the most elegant and personal atmosphere. For larger gatherings of 60+, a reception with buffet or action station formats allows the retiree to move freely and connect with all their guests.

Can you create a custom menu that reflects the retiree's favorite foods?

Yes — our events team works with you to build a menu around preferences, dietary needs, and the general tone of the celebration. Nothing is off the table.

Do you handle speeches, toasts, and event flow coordination?

Our events team works around your program — we time courses and service to complement speeches and toasts rather than interrupt them.

How far in advance should I book a retirement dinner?

We recommend 3–6 weeks minimum for smaller gatherings, 6–8 weeks for larger events or those requiring a specific venue date.
