Coastal Roots Hospitality operates three restaurants on the Monterey Peninsula: Montrio at 414 Calle Principal in downtown Monterey, Tarpy's at 2999 Monterey-Salinas Highway, and Rio Grill at 101 Crossroads Blvd in Carmel. All three share one events and catering team.

Montrio suits downtown Monterey dining and special occasions in a restored 1910 firehouse. Tarpy's is a stone roadhouse with courtyards and gardens on the Highway 68 corridor, good for groups and outdoor settings. Rio Grill is a relaxed Carmel room at The Crossroads. Menus and reservations are on each restaurant's own site.

Reservations are handled by each restaurant rather than centrally. Book through the reservations page on the Montrio, Tarpy's, or Rio Grill website, or call the restaurant directly. Walk-ins are welcome based on availability.

Coastal Roots Events & Catering brings the kitchens of all three restaurants together under one events team. It covers private dining inside the restaurants and full-service off-site catering across the Monterey Peninsula, including menu planning, service staff, bar service, and rentals coordination.

Yes. Coastal Roots caters ceremonies, receptions, and rehearsal dinners at all three venues and off-site across Monterey, Carmel, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, and Carmel Valley. One event manager handles the event from the first tasting through the last toast — see Monterey wedding catering.

Montrio's three private spaces accommodate groups from 20 to 150. Tarpy's indoor rooms and outdoor courtyards can be combined for larger gatherings, and Rio Grill suits smaller parties. Off-site catering has no venue ceiling.

Yes. Coastal Roots is a fully licensed mobile caterer and brings kitchen equipment, service staff, and a full front-of-house setup to locations without a commercial kitchen, including private residences, estates, gardens, ranches, and offices.

As early as your date is firm. The Monterey event calendar concentrates between late spring and October, and those weekends overlap with Car Week in August and the Bach Festival in July. Saturdays in that window commit first. Smaller weekday events can often be arranged on shorter notice.

Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-conscious, and allergy-specific menus are standard requests. Share dietary details during menu planning so the kitchen can build them into service rather than improvise on the day.

Yes. Events include service staff and bartenders, and the events team coordinates rentals such as tables, linens, glassware, and place settings. Florals, A/V, and specialty cocktails can be arranged through the same coordinator.

Yes. Coastal Roots gift cards are redeemable at Montrio, Tarpy's, and Rio Grill. They can be purchased online or at any of the three restaurants.

Downtown Dining gift cards remain valid at any of the three restaurants and retain their full value. Coastal Roots gift cards are what is issued going forward.

Yes. The Coastal Roots loyalty program earns rewards across all three restaurants on a single account, so visits to Montrio, Tarpy's, and Rio Grill accrue together.

Yes. Coastal Roots partners with local charities and community organizations across the Monterey Peninsula, including food bank support and an ongoing community partner program.
